Reaction Steps

To a flask containing ethyl 6-[[2-(acetyloxy)ethyl](ethyl)amino]-4-hydroxy-3-quinolinecarboxylate (0.17 g) in DMF (5 mL) is added potassium carbonate (0.21 g) and iodomethane (0.05 mL). The reaction is tightly capped and heated to 90° C. After 3 hours, the reaction is cooled to room temperature, diluted with dichloromethane, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue is adsorbed onto silica and chromatographed on silica eluting with 4% to 8% methanol in dichloromethane. The product-containing fractions are evaporated to give 0.22 g of the title compound as a orange solid.
