Reaction Steps

A solution of [1-(4-cyanobenzyl)-1H-imidazol-5-yl]acetic acid methyl ester (4.44 g, 17.4 mmol ) in THF (100 ml) and 1 M lithium hydoxide (17.4 ml, 17.4 mmol) was stirred at RT for 18 hr. 1 M HCl (17.4 ml) was added and the THF was removed by evaporation in vacuo. The aqueous solution was lyophilised to afford the titled compound containing lithium chloride as a white solid.
