0.5 g (2.19 mmol) of 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-3-nitro-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-1-acetic acid is suspended in 5 ml of dichloromethane, 250 μgl (2.41 mmol) of benzyl alcohol and 0.5 g (2.45 mmol) of 1,3-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide in solution in 5 ml of dichloromethane are added. The mixture is kept stirred for 3 hours at room temperature, it is diluted with 20 ml of dichloromethane, filtered and evaporated. The residue is recrystallized from ethanol. 0.57 g of product is obtained.
