Reaction Steps
5-Methoxy-2-methyl-1-tetradecyl-1H-indole-3-acetic acid. A solution of 1.60 g (3.6 mmol) of 5-methoxy-2-methyl-1-tetradecyl-1H-indole-3-acetic acid ethyl ester and 10 mL of 1N NaOH in 25 mL of MeOH was stirred 16 hours, made acidic with 1N HCl, and the precipitate filtered valve 1.36 g (90% yield) of 5-methyl-2-methyl-1-tetradecyl-1H-indole-3-acetic acid, mp, 105-107° C.
