Compound 6 was prepared in 40% yield using Compound 3 (13.4 g, 25.97 mmol) with dppf (1.44 g, 2.60 mmol), Pd2dba3 (0.59 g, 0.65 mmol) and ethyl methallylcarbonate (4.87 g, 33.8 mmol). Filtration through a bed of silica gel (hexane-acetone) afforded a white solid, which upon recrystallization from toluene gave white tetragonal crystals: m.p.=102-104° C. Spectral data were consistent with the assigned structure.
