In 10 mL of N,N-dimethylformamide were suspended 1.00 g (3.60 mmol) of tert-butyl 2-[(4R,6S)-6-(chloromethyl)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-4-yl]acetate [synthesized by the process described in Example 6], 0.5 g (1.80 mmol) of tetra-n-butylammonium chloride and 0.89 g (10.8 mmol) of sodium acetate, and the suspension was stirred at 100° C. for 20 hours. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture was diluted with 20 mL of water and extracted 3 times with n-hexane.
