A solution of 1-(3,4-dichlorobenzyl)-4-(2-nitro-phenyl)-piperazine (1.19 g) in 50 mL of 4/1 ethyl acetate/methanol was treated with 5% palladium on carbon (55 mg) and placed under a hydrogen atmosphere. After stirring at ambient temperature overnight, the reaction was filtered using a pad of silica and the pad was washed with 17% ethyl acetate in hexanes, then 33% ethyl acetate in hexanes. Removal of solvent afforded 0.75 g of the product as a solid.
