A mixture of 92 parts of 1,1'-(5-bromo-1-penten-1-ylidene)bis [4-fluorobenzene] and 400 parts of methanol was hydrogenated at normal pressure and at room temperature with 5 parts of palladium-on-charcoal catalyst 10%. After the calculated amount of hydrogen was taken up, the catalyst was filtered off and the filtrate was evaporated, yielding 84 parts of 1,1'-(5-bromo-1-pentylidene)bis[4-fluorobenzene] as a residue (int. 51).
