Reaction Steps

To a stirred solution of 34.8 g of 2-bromo-1-(2'-fluoro[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl)ethanone in 1600 ml of toluene was added 17.34 g of hexamethylenetetramine. The mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 4 hours and then cooled. The resulting solid was collected, washed with toluene and ether and dried, giving 48.7 g of 1-[2-(2'-fluoro[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl)-2-oxoethyl]-3,5,7-triaza-1-azoniatricyclo[3.3.1. 13,7 ]decane bromide as a white solid mp 174°-178° C.
