Procedure

4Methoxy-3-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)benzeneamine (EP 0 533 267 A1) was added to a stirred solution of 1,1-carbonyldiimidazole (0.242 g, 1.49 mmol) in dichloromethane (20 ml). After 0.5 h, the reaction mixture was evaporated under reduced pressure and redissolved in dimethylformamide (10 ml). The resultant mixture was then treated with 4-bromo-3-methylaniline (0.253 g, 1.36 mmol), and stirred at room temperature overnight. Water (35 ml) was then added and the resultant precipitate was filtered off and dried in vacuo to give the title compound as a pale brown solid (0.400 g, 68%).
