The resultant compound of Example 9 (250 mg, 0.97 mmol) was added to 10 ml of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite. The resulting solution was stirred vigorously for 1 h, acidified, extracted with chloroform, washed with 1N HCl and saturated brine, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated in vacuo to give 217 mg (82%) of the desired compound (Rf 0.12, 20% methanol in chloroform) as a glass. 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ2.0-2.1 (m, 4H), 2.9-3.0 (m, 4H), 7.15-7.4 (m, 10H). Mass spectrum (M+H)+ =275.
