Procedure

1-(2-Bromomethyl-4-chlorophenoxy)naphthalene (400 mg) from Example 3 was dissolved in acetonitrile (20 ml), followed by addition of imidazole (235 mg) and cesium carbonate (1.1 g) under reflux for 10 minutes. After leaving the solution to stand at room temperature, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by chromatography on a silica gel column (methylene chloride:methanol=99:1) to give the title compound (270 mg; 70%). The purity of the compound was determined by HPLC, which was of 99.9%.
