Reaction Steps

To 7-Methoxy-10,11-dihydrodibenzo[b,f][1,4]thiazepin-11-one-5,5-dioxide (0.6 g, 2.07 mmol) in pyridine (5 ml) was added phosphorus pentasulphide (0.62 g, 0.675 equivalents) and the mixture was heated under reflux for 6 hours. On cooling, the pyridine was removed under reduced pressure, the residue obtained was washed with water, 3% HCl-brine and recrystallised from methanol to give the title compound (0.5 g, m.p. 250°-252°, Rf 0.5 [silica, cyclohexane/ethyl acetate (1:1, v/v)].
