6.1 ml Of 28% methanolic solution of sodium methoxide and 2.46 g of 2-chloromethylpyridine hydrochloride were added to a solution of 3.62 g of 2-mercapto-3-phenyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone in 100 ml of methanol, and the stirring was continued at room temperature for 2.5 hours. About 50 ml of water were added to the reaction solution and crystals precipitated were collected by filtration and recrystallized from ethyl acetate to give 2.45 g of the title compound.
