The secondary amines can easily be prepared according to known methods by reaction of an appropriately substituted aromatic aldehyde with a primary amine and hydrogenation of the addition product. By condensing 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde with 1-methyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethylamine and hydrogenation of the condensate, N-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)-N-(1-methyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)-amine is obtained according to the following reaction scheme: ##STR10##
