34 g (127 mmoles) 1-(2-Hyrdoxyethyl)-2-undecyl-2-imidazoline was dissolved in 300 ml of hexane and 8.5 g (14.2 mmoles) of acetic acid in 50 ml of hexane were reacted. The precipitate was filtered and then dried at 40°-50° C. under high vacuum for 5 hours. Yield 40.7 g (97.8%). The compound was hydroscopic and was hydrated to a gel upon absorbing moisture.
