2-(4-Acetamidobutyl)-3-{1-[(cis-4-carboxy-cyclohexyl)carbamoyl]cyclopentyl}propanoic acid t-butyl ester (270 mg, 0.58 mmole) was dissolved in trifluoroacetic acid (4 ml) at 0° C. After 20 hours the solvent was evaporated and the resulting oil azeotroped with dichloromethane (3×20 ml). The oil was taken up in ethyl acetate (20 ml) and washed with water (7×20 ml) until the washings were neutral. The organic layer was separated, dried over magnesium sulphate, and evaporated. The residue was dissolved in saturated sodium carbonate solution (20 ml) washed with ethyl acetate (2×20 ml), acidified with 2N hydrochloric acid and then extracted with ethyl acetate (3×20 ml). The organic layer was separated, dried over magnesium sulphate and evaporated. The residue was azeotroped with tetrahydrofuran to give the title product as a colourless foam (110 mg, 45%). Found: C,62.58; H,8.71; N,5.27. C22H36N2O5.C4H8O requires C,62.88; H,8.93; N,5.64%.
