Procedure
Boron tribromide (0.35 ml) was added to a stirred suspension of 1-benzyl-3-propyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-5H-imidazo [2',1':5,1]pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine-2,4-dione (0.5 g) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 22 hours and then cooled to room temperature, followed by addition of methanol (10 ml). The mixture was stirred for a while and was concentrated to dryness. After addition of ethyl acetate, resulting crystals were collected by filtration and washed with water to give crude crystals. Recrystallization from ethyl acetate gave colorless crystals (0.16 g, 44%), m.p. 326°-328° C. (decomp.).
