Procedure
A solution of acetophenone (95 ml), m-carbethoxy aniline (75 ml), benzene (150 ml) was refluxed in the presence of molecular sieve (50 g) with continuous removal of water. The crude product was distilled under reduced pressure to give N-(α-methyl benzylidene)-m-carbethoxyaniline (XIII). XIII had a boiling point of 205° C. at 0.1 millimeter.
