Reaction Steps
The procedures of Example 1 are repeated except that 4-mercapto-7-methyl-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid, prepared according to the method described in Farmaco. Ed. Sci., 28, 722 (1973), and 4-(4-diphenylmethyl-1-piperazinyl)butylamine are employed in place of 4-hydroxy-7-methyl-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid and 4-(4-diphenylmethylene-1-piperidyl)butylamine to give N-[4-(4-diphenylmethyl-1-piperazinyl)butyl ]-4-mercapto-7-methyl-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxamide as oils, which is converted into fumarate in a conventional manner. The fumarate is recrystallized from ethanol - water to give the desired compound. m.p. 209° to 212° C.
