20 g of manganese dioxide are added to a solution of 7.08 g of α-(1-methylpyrazol-5-yl)-2,3-dichloro-4,5dimethoxybenzylalcohol in methylene chloride and the mixture is stirred at room temperature for 3 days. The reaction mixture is filtered and washed with chloroform. The filtrate and the washings are combined and evaporated to remove solvent. The residue is crystallized from n-hexane to give 6.35 g of (1-methylpyrazol-5-yl)-(2,3-dichloro-4,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-methanone.
