Reaction Steps
A solution of 20 g (50 mmol) of 7-(1,4dioxaspiro[4.4]non-7-yl)-1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid, ethyl ester in 150 ml of ethanol and 100 ml of 6.0 M hydrochloric acid was heated at reflux for 6 hours. The solvent was removed in vacuo to give 31.6 g of the title compound.
