3-Butyryl-4-(2-methylphenylamino)-8-oxiranylquinoline (1.0 g, 2.89 mmol) and morpholine (1.0 g, 11.55 mmol) in dioxan (20 ml) were heated under reflux for 9 hours. The dioxan was evaporated and the residue dissolved in ethyl acetate, washed with brine, dried and evaporated to an oil which crystallised from ether. Recrystallisation from dichloromethane/ether gave 3-butyryl-4-(2-methylphenylamino)-8-(1-hydroxy-2-morpholinoethyl)quinoline (0.59 g, 47%), m.p. 135°-137°.
