The resulting solution was warmed to 40., and a catalytic amount of diphosphorus pentasulfide (50 mg) was added. The mixture was heated to 80-90, and the stirring was continued overnight. The reaction mixture was diluted with water, and the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration to give 2-(4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-4,5-dimethoxyaniline (5.1 g, 82%) as a solid.
