To ((2R,3S,6R)-3-acetoxy-6-(N-hydroxycarbamimidoyl)-3,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)methyl acetate (2.33 g, 13.4 mmol) in EtOH (15 mL) was added diethylacetylenedicarboxylate (3.20 mL, 20.1 mmol) and the reaction mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 3 h. The solvent was removed in vacuo to afford 2.40 g (52% yield) of the title compound as an amber oil. LCMS (+ESI, M+H+) m/z 345.
