To a solution of 4-{3-chloro-4-[3,3,3-trifluoro-2-hydroxy-2-(6-methoxy-pyridin-3-yl)-1-methyl-propyl]-phenoxy}-benzoic acid methyl ester (22 mg) in dioxane (0.65 ml) was added conc. aqueous HCl (88 mg). The mixture was stirred at 100° C. for 1 h. The mixture was concentrated to dryness. The residue was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (0.1 ml) and methanol (0.1 ml). 2 M aqueous NaOH solution (0.22 ml) was added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The mixture was acidified with 2 M aqueous HCl. The organic solvents were evaporated. The precipitate was filtered, washed with water and dried to give the title compound as a colorless solid (15 mg). MS (m/e, ISP neg. ion)=466.0 [M−H+].
