Platinum on carbon (0.40 g of 5%) was added to a solution of 1-{[(2-chloro-3-nitroquinolin-4-yl)amino]methyl}cyclobutanol (4.0 g, 13 mmol) in ethyl acetate (65 mL), and the mixture was placed under hydrogen pressure (40 psi, 2.8×105 Pa) on a Parr apparatus for 3.5 hours. The mixture was filtered through a layer of CELITE filter agent, and the filter cake was washed with ethyl acetate (100 mL). The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to provide 1-{[(3-amino-2-chloroquinolin-4-yl)amino]methyl}cyclobutanol as a yellow solid.
