Procedure
4-chloro-1-(2-chlorophenyl)-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine (1.3 g, 4.90 mmol) was added to a stirred solution of glycine (0.72 g, 9.59 mmol) and anhydrous sodium carbonate (0.58 g, 5.48 mmol) in water (10 mL). The reaction was refluxed for 2 hrs. The reaction mixture was acidified by the addition of formic acid. The precipitate was filtered, washed with water and dried in vacuo to give the title compound as a colourless solid (1.23 g), 1H NMR (300 MHz, CD3OD) δ 8.32 (s, 1H), 8.24 (s, 1H), 7.66 (m, 1H), 7.54 (m, 3H), 4.34 (s, 2H).
