Under nitrogen, 1.3 g. of 11α,15-dihydroxy-15-methyl-9-oxo-13-thiaprostanoic acid p-benzoylaminophenyl ester, dissolved in 40 ml. of dry THF was added to a suspension of 3.3 g. of LiAl(O-tert.--C4H9)3H in 25 ml. of dry THF. The solution was allowed to stand for 1 hour at room temperature; then poured into 90 ml. of ice-cold 1 N HCl; and extracted with CHCl3. The organic phase was washed with water and dried over NaSO4. The solvent was distilled off. After chromatographic purification of the residue (silica gel/ethyl acetate), 9,11α,15-trihydroxy-15-methyl-13-thiaprostanoic acid p-benzoylaminophenyl ester was obtained.
