2-trans-[2-(2-methyl-phenyl)-ethenyl]-3-propyl-4-oxo-4H-pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidine-7-carboxylic acid (3.6 g) was reacted with 1-chloro-2-(diethylamino)ethane (2.7 g) and anhydrous K2CO3 (2.8 g) in dimethylformamide (40 ml) under stirring at 50° C. for 8 hours. After dilution with water, the precipitate was filtered off and washed with water until neutral: crystallization from isopropyl ether gave 2.1 g of 2-trans-[2-(2-methyl-phenyl)-ethenyl]-3-propyl-4-oxo-4H-pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidine-7-carboxylic acid, 2-diethylamino-ethyl ester.
