Reaction Steps
To a stirred melt of 1-fluoro-4-methyl-2-nitro-benzene (10 g) at 150° C. under a sunlamp was slowly added 3.65 ml of bromine over a 5 hr period. Cooled the brown mixture to 50° C. and poured into 125 ml of hexane. Cooled in an ice bath, filtered, and obtained 10.1 g of 4-bromomethyl-1-fluoro-2-nitro-benzene as white crystals. ##STR146##
