Reaction Steps

Methyl 4-[2-(2-(2-chloro-2-(phenyl )ethyl)-3-pyridyl)ethyl]benzoate (0.537 g, 1.29mmol) was dissolved in ethanol (10 ml). The solution was treated with palladium on carbon (10% Pd, 0.1 g) and placed under a hydrogen atmosphere. The reaction was stirred at ambient temperature for 18 hours, then filtered and the solvent evaporated to give methyl 4-[2-(2-(phenethyl)-3-pyridyl)ethyl]benzoate (0.467 g), which was used without further purification.
