Procedure
23.8 g (87 mmol) of 2-(2-bromophenoxy)pentanoic acid and 90 ml of thionyl chloride are placed in a 250 ml round-bottomed flask equipped with a reflux condenser. The mixture is heated at 80° C. for 4 hours. The thionyl chloride is evaporated and the residue purified by distillation under reduced pressure (0.1 millibar). 19.3 g of 2-(2-bromophenoxy)pentanoic acid chloride are obtained (76% yield); B.p.=114° C. (0.1 mb, 10 Pa).
