To a solution of (2R)-(3-[3-[2-(3-chlorophenyl)-2-hydroxyethylamino]cyclohexyl]phenoxy)acetic acid (trans-H) obtained in Example 46 (1.0 g) in methanol (10 ml) there was added an excess of diazomethane in ether solution, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. After distilling off the solvent under reduced pressure, separation and purification by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate:hexane=5:l) gave 0.91 g of (1R)-1-(3-chlorophenyl)-2-[3-(3-methoxycarbonylmethoxyphenyl)cyclohexylamino]ethanol (88% yield).
