Reaction Steps
A solution of 5-amino-3-cyano-1-(2,6-dichloro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-4-iodopyrazole (0.45 g) in dimethoxyethane (4 ml) containing tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (0.035 g) was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes and then heated to 80° C. Thiophene-2-boronic acid (0.14 g) and aqueous sodium carbonate solution (2 ml, 1M) were added and the mixture heated under reflux for 3 hours. The cooled reaction was poured into ether and water. The organic layer was separated, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated. The residue was taken up the minimum amount of dichloromethane and silica gel (10 g) added. The solvent was removed and the residue applied to a column of silica gel (75 g) which was eluted with hexane containing increasing proportions of dichloromethane. Combination and evaporation of suitable fractions gave the title compound as a white solid. A sample recrystallised form methanol had m.p. 206-7° C.
