2-Benzothiazolesulfonamide (1.0g., 0047 mol) was dissolved in 30 ml of pyridine and stirred at room temperature for 15 minutes. Freshly distilled acetic anhydride (2 ml) was added to this solution and the reaction stirred over night at room temperature. The reaction was poured into a 300 ml beaker containing 25 ml of concentrated HC1 and 250 of crushed ice. The reaction was allowed to stand at room temperature until the ice melted and then vacuum filtered to yield 0.2 g of product (quantitative yield). The product was purified by adding the crude product to 25 ml of 10% Ha2CO3.H2O solution, filtering the sodium salt of N-acetyl-2-benzothiazolesulfonamide and dissolving it into water followed by careful acidification and hydrochloric acid. m.p. 197° -199° C.; NMR(DMSO-D6) δ8.4-7.5 (m, 5H), 2.1 (2, 3H). Elemental Analyses: C9H8N2O3S2. Calculated: C 42.18%, H 3.15%, N 1-0.93%. Found: C 42.27%, H 3.14%, N 10.86%.
