Procedure

To a stirred suspension of 12.0 g. (0.03 mole) of 2-methyl-3-(4-aminobenzoyl)-1-[2-(4-morpholinyl)ethyl]- 1H-indole (Example 4B) in 15 ml of glacial acetic acid and 30 ml. of water was added a solution of 4.5 g. (0.06 mole) of sodium isocyanate in 30 ml of water. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for two hours, then diluted with water and made alkaline with 10% sodium hydroxide The solid which separated was collected and recrystallized from DMF to give 5.9 g (48%) of 2-methyl3-(4-carbamylaminobenzoyl)-1-[2-(4-morpholinyl)ethyl]-1H-indole, m p. 192°-202° C.
