A mixture of 3.5 parts of 4-imino-2-thiazolidinone, 4.4 parts of 1,3-diiminoisoindoline and 100 parts of methanol was stirred under an atmosphere of nitrogen at room temperature for 3 hours and then at reflux temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to 25° C. and the solid therein was collected by filtration, washed with fresh methanol and dried in vacuo at 50° C. to obtain 5.4 parts of 1-imino-3-(2-oxo-4-imino-5-thiazolidinylidene)isoindoline as a yellow powder melting at 346°-348° C.
