A solution of 3 g. of crude 2-(6-carboxy-2-cis-hexenyl)cyclopent-3-ene-1-one (Example 1133) in 100 ml. of 2% sodium hydroxide is stirred at 80° C. under nitrogen for 1.5 hours. The cooled solution is acidified to Congo Red and extracted into ether. The ethereal extracts are dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated at reduced pressure to afford the product.
