Procedure
136 g (0.5 mol) of 1-(4-chlorophenoxy)-5-chloro-3,3-dimethyl-pentan-2-one are dissolved in 1,000 ml of methylene chloride. 79.9 g (1 mol) of bromine are added dropwise, at room temperature, in such a manner that the solution is constantly decolourised. Thereafter, stirring is continued for 1 hour at room temperature, and the reaction mixture is concentrated by distilling off the solvent. 1-Bromo-1-(4-chlorophenoxy)-5-chloro-3,3-dimethyl-pentan-2-one is obtained quantitatively, that is to say 177 g, and is directly reacted further. ##STR31##
