Procedure 1 is repeated with substitution of 4,5-dimethyl-2-(methylthio)-2-imidazoline hydroiodide for the 2-(methylthio)-2-imidazoline hydroiodide specified. The resulting 7-amino-2,3-dihydro-2,3-dimethyl-8-[(4-chlorphenyl)methyl]-6-nitrosoimidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidin-5(8H)-one is converted to the corresponding 6-formylamino compound by the method of Procedure 2 and the latter is converted to the desired product by the method of Procedure 4.
