To a suspension of 5-({[(1,1-dimethylethyl)(dimethyl)silyl]oxy}methyl)-2-(3-nitrophenyl)-3-(4-pyrimidinyl)pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyridine (1.75 g, 3.79 mmol) in ethanol (88 mL), sodium sulfide nonahydrate (4.56 g, 19.0 mmol) in H2O (90 mL) was added. The mixture was heated at 100° C. under reflux for 2 h. The mixture was evaporated under reduced pressure to remove ethanol, and following the addition of H2O was cooled to 0° C. The resulting precipitate was filtered to give the product (1.16 g) as a pale orange solid.
