A round bottom flask was charged with 2-(5-nitro-1-oxoisoquinolin-2(1H)-yl)acetamide (0.98 g, 0.0040 mol), methanol (200 mL, 4 mol) and palladium, 10% weight on charcoal (0.1 g, 0.001 mol) was added and the reaction was stirred under hydrogen atmosphere (1 atm) for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was filtered and the solvent removed under reduced pressure and the residue purified by flash chromatography (40 g, 0-10% MeOH/DCM) to yield the product as an off white solid. MS m/z=218.3 (M+H).
