A round bottom flask was charged with (R)-methyl 3-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-2-(5-nitro-1-oxoisoquinolin-2(1H)-yl)propanoate (5.5 g, 0.014 mol), methanol (100 mL, 2 mol); palladium, 10% weight on charcoal (0.3 g, 0.003 mol) was added and the reaction stirred under hydrogen atmosphere (1 atm) for 2 h. The reaction was filtered over celite and the solvent removed under reduced pressure and the residue purified by flash chromatography (40 g, 0-10% MeOH/DCM) to yield the product as a yellow sticky mass. MS m/z=377.5 (M+H).
