Reaction Steps

A solution of 3-methyl-N-phenyl-5-isoxazoleacetamide (10 mmol) and N,N-dimethyl-formamide dimethyl acetal (1.80 g, 2.0 mL, 15 mmol) in 20 mL of toluene was stirred at 80° C. for 24 h. The reaction was conc. to dryness. The residue was dissolved in 5 mL of toluene and treated with neat p-phenetidine (10 mmol). After heating at reflux for 2 h, the reaction was evaporated to dryness. Purification by column chromatography (2% MeOH/CH2Cl2) afforded the title compound as a light yellow solid, mp 114-115° C.
