A suspension of 41 (0.8 g, 1.69 mmol) with 10% palladium on carbon (0.40 g, wet) in methanol (30 mL) was stirred for 3 h at room temperature under atmospheric pressure of hydrogen. The mixture was then filtered through a silica gel pad; the solvent was evaporated to provide 42 (0.705 g, 99%) as a white solid. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 1.45 (s, 9H), 1.55 (m, 4H), 2.58 (m, 4H), 2.71 (m, 2H), 3.29 (m, 1H), 3.45 (m, 2H), 3.92 (m, 2H), 4.10 (br s, 1H), 5.10 (br s, 1H), 6.81 (d, 2H), 7.08 (d, 2H).
