A mixture of 1.01 g (2.85 mmol) of trans-2-(3,4-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-3-hydroxy-7-nitro-2H-1-benzopyran-4-yl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindol-1-one and 250 mg of 10% Pd/C in methanol (30 mL) was hydrogenated at atmospheric pressure for 4 hours. Filtration through Solka Floc® using a methanol rinse and concentration gave crude title compound which was used without further purification.
