Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Acetic Anhydride | HCID 7918 | — |
| Reactant | 2,3-Quinolinedicarboxylic acid | HCID 69508 | — |
| Product | Furo[3,4-b]quinoline-1,3-dione | HCID 4325463 | — |
Reaction Steps
Following isolation, the formula (VIII) quinoline-2,3-dicarboxylic acid is heated to about 70° to 95° C. with an excess of acetic anhydride to yield the formula (IV) 2,3-quinolinedicarboxylic acid anhydride, having the structure: ##STR10## wherein L, M, Q and R7 are as described above. A cosolvent such as pyridine or pyridine-dimethoxyethane may also be used in this reaction, but is not essential to obtain the desired product.
