Reaction Steps

A suspension of 1,2-diethoxalylamino-8-nitro-naphthalene (0.40 g, 1 mmol) in 20 ml of 4M hydrochloric acid was refluxed with stirring for 2 1/2 h. The mixture was cooled, and the product was filtered off, washed with water, and dried to give 0.23 g (88%) of the title compound, m.p. > 300° C., IR (KBr): 1700 (C=0), 1635 cm-1,1H-NMR (DMSO-d6): 7.45-8.40 (m,5H,ArH), ca. 10.5-13.0 (broad s, 1H, 0H), 12.5 (broad s, 1H, 0H).
