13.3 g of 1-benzyl-4-[(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-(3-hydroxy-propyl)-amino]-piperidine are combined with 1.5 g of 10% palladium-charcoal in 150 ml of methanol and hydrogenated at ambient temperature for 18 hours under 5 bars of hydrogen. The catalyst is renewed after 8 hours and 15 hours. Then the catalyst is filtered off and the filtrate is freed from solvent in vacuo. 4-[(2-Hydroxy-ethyl)-(3-hydroxy-propyl)-amino]-piperidine are obtained as an oil, which is used for the next reaction without any further purification.
